Voices of the City

In August 2020, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), created the "Voices of the City" (Sout Al Madina) comic book in Arabic. The comic book was developed as part of Tunisia's "My Sign, My Voice" electoral sign language lexicon project. The comic book includes persons who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing as characters and provides civic education to encourage political participation of Deaf Tunisians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The cover of the "Voices of the City" comic book features Deaf characters in front of the Tunisian parliament building holding a sign in Arabic which reads: "The rights of Deaf and hard-of-hearing persons are an obligation and not a favor." The comic book, which was supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is attached below.
