Updated: June 2019

In 2019, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka (EC), with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), produced a series of voter education videos in Sri Lankan Sign Language to encourage Deaf voters to register to vote. This video also includes instructions to assist young people in completing the voter registration form. An English transcript of the video is available below.

Narrator: This is year, the Election Commission has sent a supplementary form to households along with the voter enumeration form.

One side of the form is collecting data on young persons between the ages of 15-18 living in your household.

Please read the form carefully, or get an interpreter to explain it to you, and complete the form.

Competing this form enables you to vote in an election as soon as you complete the age of 18.

Hand over the completed form along with the main enumeration form to the Grama Niladhari of your division on or before the date specified by the Grama Niladhari. Hurry, the return date is approaching fast!

Remember, universal franchise is a citizen’s right, and registering yourself in the electoral register and exercising your franchise is your responsibility.
