Voting for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

Updated: October 2023

In 2017, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), with the support of the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Kyiv, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Global Affairs Canada produced a video on the right of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to vote. This video mainstreams disability by including images of persons with disabilities alongside other citizens. A transcript in English of the video is available below.

Narrator: Our future is formed by the various choices we make. What skills to develop? Which university to attend? Which profession to master, whether to become a cook, a teacher or a president? Whom to elect as a representative? Not all citizens have the right to choose! Internally displaced persons in Ukraine have been deprived of the right to choose for three years. Internally displaced persons should be given the possibility to participate in all elections!
